The virtues of the first ten days of the month of Dhul Hijjah in Qur’an and sunnah.

الحمد لله ربّ العالمين، والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله وعلى آله والصحابة والتابعين إلى يوم الدين

ALL praise be to Allah (The Almighty),And Prophet Muhammed , upon His pure family, as well as upon all the noble Companions and the righteous who follow them until the day of judgment.

The virtues of the first ten days of the month of Dhul Hijjah in Qur’an and sunnah.

Allah (The Almighty) says in The Qur’an:

“ By the Dawn.By the ten nights.”(Al- Fajr:1-2)

Ibn Abbas said this refers to the ten days of Dhul Hijjah

Narrated Ibn Abbas:
The prophet () said,” No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on            these (first ten days of Dhul Hijjah).” Then some companions of the prophet () said,
“Not even Jihad?”He replied,”Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for Allah’s sake) and does not return with any of those things.”           (Al-Bukhari)

It is recommended to perform some acts in these days as:

1- praying: it is highly recommended to perform the obligatory acts at their prescribed times         (as early as possible) and to increase oneself in the supererogatory acts.

Thauban(May be pleased with him) said:
I heard the Messenger of Allah () saying, “ perform praying(salah) more often.
For every prostration that you perform before Allah will raise your position one degree and will remit one of your sins”.(Muslim)

2- Fasting: it is one of the righteous deeds.

It was narrated from Hunaidah bin khalid, from his wife, from one of the wives of the prophet,       that:

“The Messenger of Allah used to fast nine days of Dhul-Hijjah, the day of Ashura, and three days of each month: The first Monday of the month, and two Thursday”. (sunan an-Nasa’i: sahih).

3- Perform Takbeer, Tahleel, Tahmeed:

It was narrated from Ibn Omar that the Messenger of Allah said:

“Recite much Tahleel        (saying Laa ilaaha ill-Allah), Takbeer( saying Allahu Akbar) and Tahmeed (saying Alhamdu Lillaah).”(Ahmad-sahih).

Ibn Umar and Abu Hurayrah, two of the Prophet’s Companions, used to go out in the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, reciting Takbeer, and the people would recite Takbeer           individually when they heard them.

There are a number of ways of making takbeer that have been narrated by the companions and      their followers and from these ways is the following:

Allahu akbar, Alahu akbar, Allahu akbar kabirun.

Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar, wa lillahil hamd.

Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahil      hamd.

4-Fasting the day of Arafah:
The Prophet () said: “Fast the Day of Arafah, for indeed I anticipate that Allah will forgive        (the sins) of the year after it, and the year before it.” (Muslim)

But, it is not highly recommended to perform fasting for pilgrims who can perform Hajj and be       standing on Arafah, because The Prophet () ate(didn’t fast) while standing on the day of Arafah.

And Blessings be upon The Prophet Mohammad, upon His pure family and upon all the noble        companions.
